Updated: Aug 26, 2019

Whether you are a small mom-and-pop shop or an one-hundred-million dollar corporation, having a Facebook company page for your organization is important for reaching your target market. Let's take a closer look at what goes into creating a Facebook company page.

To begin, visit and either create a Facebook account or login to your pre-existing account. Once access is granted, head to the upper-right title bar and select 'Create', then select 'Page'. If you are creating a company page for a business, select 'Business or Brand'. If you are creating a company page for a community organization, select 'Community or Public Figure'. Finally, input the organizational information and press 'Get Started'.

In the next step, Facebook will ask you to add pictures to your company page. Choose a profile picture to represent your organization. For businesses, a logo will work perfectly. For a community, choose an image that captures the essence of your organization. The next image will be for a cover photo. Facebook allows organizations to select a cover photo that is at least 400 x 150 pixels.

Take a look at the screenshot below. For SociaLite Chicago's Facebook page, the company logo is featured as the profile picture and a stunning shot of Chicago is the cover photo obtained through Unsplash. Get creative and be unique with your selections! Now that the shell of your Facebook company page is created, let's dive into some of the nuts and bolts.

Facebook creates an easy tutorial to walk you through the details of what your company page has to offer. Follow along to get a better understanding of the Facebook company page features. Select 'Edit Page Info' to add a company description, contact information, hours of operation, and additional public information.

Create a Facebook company page username so visitors can easily find your organization on Facebook. Locate the 'About' option on the lower left-side menu. When selected, the screen will look like the screenshot below. Select the 'Edit' option to the right of 'Name'. Keeping the username short and simple will make it easy for users to remember. For example, SociaLite Chicago's Facebook username is @socialite2019.

In the 'About' section, you can simply edit general and business information. Updating this sooner than later is always a good idea! Now, let's walk through how to make a Facebook post. Visit the 'Home' page of your Facebook company page by selecting 'Home' on the left-hand menu. Your home screen features a 'Write a post...' section where you can update followers with company information and news in real-time. Write your first post or attach a relevant article, place 1-2 hashtags, and select 'Share Now' and your post is officially live!

Now that you have created, updated, and shared your first Facebook post, manage your activity and engage with followers to optimize your time on your Facebook company page.
